Our goal in this endeavor is to help ease the financial and psychological burden for individuals fighting cancer.

Purpose and Action

Our purpose is to raise money in order to provide a philanthropic benefit to residents in North Louisiana that are battling cancer. Approved applicants will be granted a gift card for travel expenses related to treatment related to treatment costs, bills or groceries, or a redemption certificate at one of our partner organizations for the cost or partial cost of purchasing a wig, headwear, lymphatic garment or prosthetic bras.

History

In 2011 Louisiana Tech Athletics, The Minute Magazine and Northern Louisiana Medical Center came together to create Wiggin’ Out. Since our first event in the fall of 2011 at Squire Creek Country Club, Wiggin’ Out has grown into its own entity with the addition of the Ruston Daily Leader as a major partner. Originally created to help women in Lincoln Parish purchase wigs, Wiggin’ Out’s focus has now expanded to include other appropriate headwear, lymphatic garments and prosthetic bras for men, women and children along the I-20 corridor in North Louisiana.

Matthew Nelson, Vice President

Matt Nelson became involved with Wiggin' Out in 2016, drawn to the theme "Kicking Cancer," which resonated with him both as a Louisiana Tech University graduate and former football place kicker, as well as because of his personal connection to cancer. His mother fought cancer, and Matt was inspired by her strength throughout her battle. When he saw the gala advertisement, he knew he had to get involved.

Professionally, Matt is a Retirement Accredited Financial Advisor and Senior Portfolio Advisor at Merrill Lynch, where he helps clients plan for their financial futures.

Christy Bishop

Christy was given the opportunity to join the Wiggin Out team in the summer of 2025. Without hesitation she humbly embraced the offer to assist in its mission to serve local residents.

She graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Merchandising and Consumer Studies. After realizing a big city life wasn’t what her true dreams were made of, she began working at a small community bank in 2013 where she met the founder of Wiggin Out, Vicki Caskey. Christy  immediately connected with the vision of the nonprofit. The compassion Vicki exuded towards the nonprofit was incredibly impactful, and she always looked forward to visiting with Vicki and attending the annual gala.

Christy resides in Lincoln Parish with her husband, Cullen and daughter, Mary Travis. As a homemaker, her days are filled with errands, grocery runs, laundry and carline, but when all the duties are completed, she enjoys leaning into her creative side of being an artist. As a member of a local art group, Fringe - an art experience, she’s involved with annual shows and creative pop up events.

She enjoys spending time with her family, whether it’s going on an evening walk with the dogs, playing 18 holes on the golf course, traveling, or just a homemade pizza and movie night at home.

Christy is looking forward to embodying the mission of Wiggin Out serving her community.
